The giraffe sculptures from the Cambridge Standing Tall trail are to be sold at a charity auction today (Wednesday, 19 June ).

The 37 giraffe sculptures will go under the hammer at The Graduate Cambridge, hosted by BBC radio’s Dave Webster and auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp from BBC’s Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow. The event, in aid of children’s charity Break, will start at 5.30pm.

After 10 weeks of entertaining residents and visitors of Cambridge, the giraffesculptures which made up Cambridge Standing Tall have been herded off the streetsready to go under the hammer at a charity auction on 19 June at the GraduateCambridge.

Johnnie Sam, proud owner of Cowbridges, a sculpture by artist Glynn Thomas RE from the previous Cows About Cambridge trail and a gorilla from a GoGoGorillas trail, said: “Our cow naturally fitted by the riverbank, visible to passers-by. Our dog was initially puzzled and over-excited when Gus the Gorilla was delivered! It will make you and your friends smile as well as provide a conversation piece. But most importantly, it will also remind you of the trail experience and the support you’ve given to the amazing work Break does for young people from care.”
