Taylor Swift singing diss track 'sends clear message' - 'She read the news'

Taylor Swift fans can’t help but feel she took a major dig at Scooter Braun during the surprise songs segment at a recent Eras Tour show.

Anybody clued into the realm of all things Taylor Swift will be familiar with the name Scooter Braun, and they may even give a little shudder when they hear it. The 34-year-old music icon became locked into quite the dispute with the 43-year-old entrepreneur and record executive when his company Ithica Holdings acquired the rights to the master recordings of her first six studio albums in 2019. Taking the power into her own hands, she began recording them anew as Taylor’s Versions, which she would own. If you ask fans, especially those at a certain Eras Tour show, he may have won the battle, but she certainly won the war.

Taylor Swift fans claim she made a ‘dig’ at Scooter Braun during iconic Eras Tour moment

Taking the Eras Tour to Cardiff in Wales on Tuesday, June 18th 2024, Taylor performed a mash-up of both I Forgot That You Existed from the album Lover and This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things from Reputation as part of her surprise songs segment.

The songs are both very obvious diss tracks, and fans can’t help but feel suspicious she chose to include them as a dig at Scooter following his retirement from music management. Not only that, but she played the songs on his birthday no less.

“Taylor giggling and then saying ‘with a straight face… THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE! THINGS,'” a fan captioned her footage of the performance in a tweet.

Swifties are refusing to believe the songs weren’t performed with him in mind. “She read the news,” one subtly suggested. “It was hilarious,” a Tay fan reacted.

Although the songs have both been performed on the tour previously, fans are adamant it can’t be a coincidence, this is the first time she’s combined them into a lyrical takedown of a mash-up.

Even before the performance, fans couldn’t help but highlight the feud between the pair. “Scooter Braun retiring in the middle of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour being the highest grossing musical tour EVER is peak Karma Is A God,” one tweeted, for example.

Music manager’s retirement statement marks the end of 23-year journey

The music manager announced his retirement from the field with a lengthy statement

“23 years. 23 years. That’s how long I have been a music manager,” he said, as reported by Variety. “23 years ago a 19-year-old kid started managing an artist named Cato in Atlanta, GA and my journey began. Along the way, I have had so many experiences I could never have dreamt of.”

Wrapping things up after recapping the many strands of his music management journey, he went on: “So yes, it’s been 23 years. And yes, this chapter has come to an end… I never saw how this chapter would end, hell, I never even saw it happening. But it did. And I will cherish every moment of it.”

Taylor may not have explicitly mentioned Scooter during her Eras Tour show, but if you ask the fans, the statement didn’t escape her eagle-eyed stare. The talons were sharpened before the last laugh was drowned out by a sea of adoring fans.
