'Off the charts': Ian Wright says Arsenal have an undroppable player who he's so proud of

Ian Wright has expressed his pride over one Arsenal player’s performances for club and country over the past year.

Plenty of Arsenal players have enjoyed positive starts to Euro 2024, with Kai Havertz, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka among those to pick up wins in their first games at the tournament.

Havertz netted in Germany’s emphatic 5-1 win over Scotland last week while Saliba was handed a rare start in a 1-0 victory over Austria.

As for Saka, he returned to the starting XI for England’s narrow 1-0 win over Serbia and provided the assist for Jude Bellingham’s winner.

The 22-year-old got just 30 minutes under his belt in England’s warm-up fixtures after missing the final game of Arsenal’s season through injury.

And Ian Wright has heaped praise on the Hale End Academy product for his willingness to play through injury, while also producing top performances.

Wright ‘so proud’ of Bukayo Saka

Speaking on ITV Sport’s coverage of Croatia vs Albania on Wednesday, Wright heaped praise on Saka’s record for the Three Lions.

“What we are seeing with Saka, especially with England, is that is 27 goal involvements in 34 games,” the Arsenal legend said. “This guy is undroppable for England and Arsenal.

“When people are talking about is he world-class. It is irrelevant. He is going to continue to play and do his talking on the pitch. That’s what he is doing.

“His consistency is off the charts, for someone who was playing with injury throughout the season, he had to be nursed through. I’m so proud of him.”

Saka’s record for England at major tournaments

Many wondered whether or not Gareth Southgate would take a risk with Saka’s fitness heading into the Serbia game. But the Arsenal star proved once again why he’s so integral to this current England side.

He should only improve as the tournament goes on too as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

After his eye-catching display against Serbia, Saka has now appeared in the last three major tournaments for England. The forward has netted three times and provided two assists in nine appearances during this time.
