Aston Villa could line up another Serie A swap deal involving Matty Cash and 'sensational' target

Aston Villa could be lining up another Serie A swap deal amid talks of Douglas Luiz heading to Juventus in return for two players plus cash.

Aston Villa need funds ahead of 30th June in order to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).

It is for that reason that they look set to lose a key player in Douglas Luiz, but with Juventus unable to afford him outright reports suggest a deal that sees Villa receive £16 million plus Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior is close.

Now, it looks as though Villa could capitalise on interest in another of their players in order to negotiate a deal for a player they are keen to sign in a like-for-like swap.

Aston Villa could swap Matty Cash for Denzel Dumfries

Matty Cash has been a major part of Villa’s rise from Premier League relegation fodder to the Champions League but his form suffered at the end of last season and Unai Emery is looking to upgrade on the right-back.

The club’s pursuit of a new player in Cash’s position has led them to Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries who is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Dumfries has confirmed he is happy to remain at the Serie A champions and that discussions are taking place over a new contract, however the Italian club’s financial woes could see them have to put those discussions on hold and seek a sale.

This would be good news for Villa but, better still, Inter are now said to be interested in Cash as the player to replace Dumfries which could see the two clubs negotiate a swap deal.

That is according to a post by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on ‘X’ on Wednesday, who said: ‘Denzel Dumfries’ contract renewal on standby. Inter monitor Matty Cash of Aston Villa and Dan Ndoye of Bologna.’

Despite their own financial concerns, Villa know that if they manage to get past the 30th June PSR deadline they can start looking at how they can get their squad Champions League ready.

Dumfries would certainly help with that, with his 30 appearances in the competition across his time at Inter and PSV standing him in good stead.

The 28-year-old has energy in abundance and has earned a glowing reputation for being a real attacking force down the right for both club and country.

He would represent an upgrade on the solid if not remarkable Cash, with former footballer Kevin Campbell saying in 2021: “Dumfries, I’ve seen him and I watched him closely at the Euros, the boy was sensational.”

Whilst Villa fans may be wary of another potential swap deal, they would certainly be getting the better deal if this one materialises.
