Fabrizio Romano says £52m player reportedly wanted by Arsenal has seen move to PL rivals all-but collapse

Arsenal have a busy summer ahead of them as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to apply the finishing touches to their squad.

The Gunners have made great progress in the past few years and took the Premier League title battle to the final day of the 2023/24 season.

However, Arsenal sadly fell short for the second year in a row, so they’ll be eager to strengthen their ranks to ensure they can go all the way next term.

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, a defender linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium has seen his move to a Premier League rival all-but collapse.

Arsenal target Jean-Clair Todibo now unlikely to join Manchester United

The player in question is Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo. According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Gunners are amongst the clubs interested in the Frenchman.

Recent speculation suggested that Todibo was closing in on a move to Manchester United, but according to Romano, this is now unlikely to be the case.

The transfer insider, sharing an exclusive on X, claimed that a deal involving the Red Devils and Todibo is ‘currently off and highly unlikely’ due to UEFA rules.

Talks were advanced and all parties have been keen for months, explained Romano.

However, the fact both clubs have the same ownership and are playing in the same European competition next season means ‘no green light’.

Arsenal could potentially swoop for Todibo

Although Arsenal had a solid defence last season, no club can rest on their laurels when it comes to always moving forward and bringing in strong additions.

Todibo, who reportedly has a £52million price tag, would be a brilliant addition for the Gunners. He would improve their defensive strength in depth further.

And now that Man United’s pursuit of Todibo seems to have been hamstrung, Arsenal may well fancy their chances of swooping in and signing him from Nice.
