Chelsea should prioritise bringing in £70m man who was signed to replace Christopher Nkunku - opinion

Chelsea are reportedly keen on bringing in a new striker this summer in an attempt to strengthen the position ahead of next season.

It has been reported that new manager Enzo Maresca is not keen on starting the season with just Nicolas Jackson as a senior striker.

While reports about himwanting to leave the club following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure have surfaced, it is more than believed that he will be ready to go by the time the new campaign gets underway.

The Blues missed out on one of their top targets for a striker when it was confirmed that Benjamin Sesko had signed a new contract to remain at RB Leipzig.

There were a number of top clubs who were keen on a deal for the youngster after he enjoyed a very strong first half of 2024.

Chelsea should sign Lois Openda

However, the Blues could look to the exact same club if they were to find another player who could strengthen their ranks immediately.

Lois Openda was more than in the goals last season for the Bundesliga side, after he was brought in to replace current Chelsea man Christopher Nkunku.

He was not handed the start for Belgium in their recent European Championship opener, he made a real impact off the bench in what was eventually a losing effort.

Openda makes impact at Euros

His pace was a real bonus for the favourites for that game, however his assist for Romelu Lukaku late on was ruled out after he was deemed to have handled the ball in the build up.

Chelsea fans should get more of a look at the forward in the coming days with him surely set to start some games in the Euros.

It has been claimed that a bid in the region of £70m will be enough to get a potential deal over the line, and based on the money they are threatening to spend on players with far less experience, moving to Openda looks a far more wise decision right now.
