Major boost for Lopetegui as report claims Argentina international wants to join West Ham

Udinese defender Nehuen Perez has emerged as a West Ham United transfer target this summer.

The Argentinian centre-back is firmly on the West Ham radar, with a £17 million move believed to be in the pipeline.

Julen Lopetegui is apparently keen to bolster his centre-back ranks this summer, and has already been linked with a really exciting double deal for Wolves star Max Kilman and Bologna ace Riccardo Calafiori.

It’s no surprise that the Spaniard wants to strengthen his defensive department, after our porous back-line leaked 74 Premier League goals last season.

If Lopetegui is to oversee some genuine progress at the London Stadium, bolstering his centre-back ranks should be one of his chief priorities, alongside signing a new centre-forward.

Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd quite simply needed to be upgraded upon. The Frenchman is shot to bits physically whilst the Moroccan just isn’t suited to the Premier League one little bit.

Lopetegui has a plan in mind to improve upon what he currently has, with a move to sign Nehuen Perez.

And some mixed news has just emerged regarding our hopes of signing him this summer…

Big Nehuen Perez twist with West Ham transfer a real prospect

It seems like there’s some good and bad news for the Hammers regarding the race to sign the Udinese centre-back.

According to The Telegraph, the Argentina international is keen to join West Ham this summer.

However, Atletico Madrid inserted a buy-back clause into the deal that saw him join Udinese in the summer of 2022.

Hopefully Atleti don’t pursue that option, because the South American star would be a sensational addition for the Hammers.

In 36 Serie A appearances for Udinese last season, Perez averaged two tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 4.3 clearances and 2.3 successful aerial duels per game. He made 40.8 passes per match and recorded a completion rate of 80.3% (Who Scored).

He’s an incredibly tenacious tackler, as proven by the eight yellow cards he picked up last season in Serie A.

The Argentina international is strong in the air and quick along the ground. For £17 million, we really can’t go wrong.

If Nehuen Perez really does want to join West Ham, Lopetegui quite simply needs to make it happen, no excuses.
