Every Arsenal player at 2024 Copa America and how to watch in the UK this summer

Arsenal will be represented at the 2024 Copa America with Gunners players heading to the United States of America in this year’s edition of the CONMEBOL tournament.

After Brazil held back-to-back championships, this summer’s Copa America takes place on North American soil for only the second time ever. Argentina fly to the States as the reigning champions, as well, after defeating fierce rivals Brazil 1-0 in Rio de Janeiro in the 2021 final.

No country has won the Copa America more regularly than Argentina’s 15, the same total as Uruguay. Arsenal players have also won the Copa America through Alexis Sanchez with Chile in 2015 and 2016, plus Brazil with Edu in 2004 plus Gilberto Silva and Julio Baptista in 2007.

Arsenal have two players at the 2024 Copa America

Arsenal have just two players at the 2024 Copa America, and both will represent Brazil, after Dorival Junior named Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli in the Selecao’s 26-man side. The tournament was initially set to have squads of 23 players but increased the limit in May.

But the Gunners do only have two further players from the Americas in their first-team fold. Gabriel Jesus missed out on a place in Brazil’s side for the Copa America after suffering with injuries at Arsenal last term. While Myles Lewis-Skelly is also eligible to represent Barbados.

Barbados have never qualified for a major international tournament, though. Lewis-Skelly is also an England Under-18 international but is eligible to play for the small island country in the south-eastern Caribbean Sea through his family and has trained with Barbados already.

Gabriel Magalhaes (Brazil)

Gabriel will go into the 2024 Copa America in the United States with six caps for Brazil to the Arsenal defender’s name so far. The 26-year-old from Sao Paulo only made his debut for the Selecao in September 2023, making this his first major tournament at the international level.

Tite had included Gabriel in a Brazil squad for the first time back in November 2021. But the centre-half only debuted come the Selecao’s 2024 Copa America qualifying campaign while Fernando Diniz stood in charge. Gabriel has also started all of his first six senior Brazil caps.

Gabriel Martinelli (Brazil)

Arsenal star Martinelli flies to the USA for the 2024 Copa America as an 11-cap Brazil winger. The Guarulhos native earned his senior debut for the Selecao in March 2022 under Tite in a World Cup qualifier. But the forward has only started four of a potential 14 matches to date.

Martinelli has further offered Brazil two goals and no assists through his first 11 games with the Selecao’s senior set-up. But the 23-year-old also won Gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021 under Andre Jardine. Martinelli played in three of Brazil’s ties at the Olympic Games.

CONMEBOL drew Brazil against Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia in Group D for the 2024 Copa America. Arsenal duo Gabriel and Martinelli will hope to help Brazil win their 10th title in the United States. The Selecao won their only Copa America title since 2007 during 2019.
