Newcastle United have somewhat of a South American feel about them these days.
Indeed, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton are two of Newcastle’s standout players and were celebrated by supporters with a Brazilian-themed tifo towards the end of the season at St James’ Park.
Paraguayan Miguel Almiron has also played a key role in Eddie Howe’s side during the club’s recent upward trajectory, while the likes of Kenedy and Solomon Rondon of Brazil and Venezuela respectively have starred in recent memory.
Newcastle have recently been linked with another Brazil star, too.
Fulham’s Andreas Pereira was touted as a target earlier this month, not long after the club missed out on former Cottagers teammate Tosin Adarabioyo.
It was suggested by Globo Esporte that the midfielder was unlikely to be at Craven Cottage next season, with all of Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa reportedly keen.
Pereira then hailed Guimaraes as his “idol” after Brazil beat Mexico in the build-up to the Copa America, potentially raising yet more talk about a move to Tyneside.
Now, the 28-year-old has been speaking about his future in west London.

The former Manchester United youngster was asked about his future by Brazilian outlet, Lance.
Speaking about what may happen this summer, Pereira said: “It’s difficult. I’m focused on the Copa América.
“I want to win a title for the national team. I’ve waited a long time to be here, so I’m enjoying the moment. As for my future, of course I’m looking forward to it, but I think I’ll leave it until the Copa América is over and I’ll certainly let you know.
“I want to play in the Champions League. The biggest championships in football. I certainly have that as a goal in my head. I haven’t decided where it’s going to be yet.”
Newcastle may not need any more midfielders next season
While not to suggest Pereira would be a bad signing for Newcastle this summer, it’s difficult to see a natural role for him next season.
There is hope Guimaraes will stay, while Sandro Tonali is set to return early next season.
A central midfielder by trade, Pereira does not look like having the profile of a priority signing for Newcastle in this particular transfer window.
Seemingly keen on the Champions League anyway, perhaps he’s already hinted Newcastle are not his preferred destination.
