Ukraine to narrow down list of critical infrastructure exempt from power cuts

According to Slobodyan, in many regions of Ukraine, dozens, and in some cases over a hundred, of such facilities have already been removed from the list.

“The goal is to find a balance that protects critical infrastructure from power outages without overburdening other consumers,” he said.

The regulator will analyze the power supply conditions of hundreds of consumers, particularly those connected to heavily used power lines that may be included in power cut schedules.

The commission also plans to divide the list into separate sections for summer and winter seasons.

“Currently, the list includes sites that are critical during the heating season but are inactive in the summer,” Slobodyan added.

“Therefore, it makes sense to exclude them during the warmer months and reinstate them when cold weather sets in.”

Finally, the official said that scheduled blackouts may be managed and fine-tuned in a manual mode to help distribute the restrictions more evenly between consumers. This approach was previously used in the winter of 2022-2023.
