'Not desperate to leave': Chelsea are trying hard to reach agreement with £68m player - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea could find it hard to land one of their reported targets this summer.

However, it does not look like they are going to give up just yet.

Chelsea have been linked with quite a few attacking players recently, including Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

It has been claimed that Omorodion is actually their first-choice target for the striker position and that Chelsea have already had one offer turned down.

Regarding Olise, the Blues are thought to want a deal for him wrapped up before the end of this month.

Chelsea finding it difficult to sign target

Having finished the 2023/24 campaign with Nicolas Jackson as the only recognised striker in their squad, it is no surprise that Chelsea want to strengthen up front.

However, they have run into a bit of a problem in their pursuit of Omorodion.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are trying to reach an agreement with the player, but he’s not desperate for a departure this summer.

On Substack, the transfer expert said: “With Omorodion, he’s still very happy in Madrid and not desperate to leave — he would like to wear the club’s shirt after they trusted him one year ago when he was not very well known.

“So that’s why Chelsea are trying to reach an agreement with the player before they try again with Atletico Madrid.”

Should Chelsea go all out to sign Samu Omorodion this summer?

At 20, Omorodion has potential, already playing in Spanish football’s top division.

However, with a record of eight goals in 34 league appearances last season, the Spaniard does not look like he is going to be Chelsea’s saviour.

It is perhaps not the worst record for a 20-year-old, who you would expect to improve with time.

But a report from gianlucadimarzio.com claims that Atletico want around €80m (£67.5m) for Omorodion.

That is way too much money for an unproven striker who does not even look eager to join Chelsea. All in all, then, the Blues would probably be better off looking elsewhere.
