Pundit shares what Gareth Southgate should do with Phil Foden if he fails to perform for England vs Denmark

Gabby Agbonahor has now made his feelings clear one of the biggest talking points surrounding England as they face Denmark on Thursday.

Coming into the tournament, it seemed like Foden’s place in the Three Lions’ lineup was cemented, even according to the masses.

However, Jamie O’Hara recently stated that the 24-year-old should be dropped by the Three Lions in their upcoming clash against the Danes.

It has been reported that the silky technician is set to start at left-wing for his country as part of an unchanged side.

Gabby Agbonlahor makes big Phil Foden decision ahead of England vs Denmark

The £225,000-a-week man seems like he will get another chance to prove his class at the international stage.

After his side’s 1-0 win against Serbia, Southgate claimed that without the decorated attacker’s off-the-ball work, he doubts his side would have emerged victorious.

But Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that if he was England boss Gareth Southgate, he would drop Foden if he did not shine against Denmark.

On talkSPORT, the pundit said: “I feel as well though guys, if you look at [Phil] Foden’s England record, he’s only scored one goal in the tournament in nine tournament games. He’s scored four goals in 35 caps, so he’s not showing the form that he’s showing for Manchester City for England.”

“So, I would start him tonight but if he doesn’t perform, I’m looking at [Cole] Palmer and saying is it Palmer’s chance to come in and replace Foden as well.”

Phil Foden should be determined to silence his critics

If Gareth Southgate starts Foden for England against Denmark, he should be determined to ensure that pundits like Gabby Agbonlahor do not even contemplate the idea of dropping him — such should be the fire in his belly heading into the contest.

The Manchester City technician, like any top player is accustomed to critics having a go at him since the start of his career.

But having played professionally for seven years, Foden must tap into his experience of having proven his sceptics wrong in the past.

By stepping up in an England shirt, the six-time Premier League winner could send a statement to the world about why he is one of his nation’s most important players.

It will be interesting to see how Foden responds if he is handed another start by Southgate at the ongoing European Championship.
