'Not necessarily': Sheffield Wednesday still have 'a way to go' before signing transfer target - journalist

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been urged not to get overly-excited about a possible new signing.

Sheffield Wednesday have already confirmed two summer signings, with Yan Valery expected to be the third.

Free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe have now arrived at Sheffield Wednesday, with recent reports revealing that Valery is set to undergo a medical with the Owls.

The Tunisian international looks set to become the third signing of what is proving to be a very efficient and exciting summer transfer window at Hillsborough.

Danny Rohl also looks set to welcome back other players with goalkeeper James Beadle wanted on loan from Brighton once again, and Ike Ugbo wanted on a permanent deal from Troyes.

Rohl is also keen for Ian Poveda to return to S6; Poveda will become a free agent on July 1st after Leeds United announced that he will be released.

The latest on Poveda is that Sheffield Wednesday are in talks to sign the Colombian on a free transfer.

Alex Miller urges patience with Ian Poveda deal at Sheffield Wednesday

Following the news that Sheffield Wednesday are in talks with Poveda, Owls fans quickly got excited.

The 24-year-old became an instant fan favourite after joining on loan from Leeds United in January, grabbing one assist in 10 Championship outings.

He gave Rohl’s team a huge lift in their eventual fight for survival. But journalist Alex Miller has urged fans not to get overly-excited by the latest Poveda news.

Miller posted on X:

Sheffield Wednesday face nervous wait over Ian Poveda

Poveda returning this summer would be a very shrewd signing, especially because it would be a free transfer.

When fit, Poveda is one of the trickiest and most dangerous attacking players in the Championship, with his quick feet and forward-thinking giving Wednesday a huge lift last season.

Injuries remains his weakness. But if Poveda can put a run of 20 or so games together, and then keep on building on that, then he’ll prove to be a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

Like Miller says, though, a deal for the former Manchester City youngster isn’t cut and dried, and Owls fans need to remain patient.

Expect Poveda to have a few offers on the table and expect him to weigh up his next move very carefully, after what’s been a tough last few years for him.

But after he shone under Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday, Poveda may feel that his development is best served playing under the German.

So it certainly seems like the Owls have an edge in this particular transfer race, although nothing is finalised.
