Report: Champions League club are struggling to agree deal with Chelsea for 'priceless' player

Chelsea have made it clear to one top European club that they are only going to do business on their terms.

The Blues do seem open to selling a host of their players this summer.

For example, the likes of Ian Maatsen and Conor Gallagher could both leave Stamford Bridge during this transfer window.

Maatsen is closing in on a move to Aston Villa, while Gallagher is said to be attracting interest from other Premier League clubs as his contract continues to run down.

The midfielder has entered the final year of his existing deal.

Chelsea make stance clear to club

Most teams outside of England do not have Premier League kind of money.

Nevertheless, Chelsea still want one Spanish side to pay a big fee for one of their stars this summer.

According to LondonWorld, Atletico Madrid are interested in Gallagher but are struggling to meet Chelsea’s £50m valuation of the player.

If they want him, though, it looks like they are going to have to eventually.

The same outlet claims that the Blues are insisting that they will not sell the 24-year-old for anything less than their current valuation.

Will Atletico Madrid sign Conor Gallagher?

It is easy to see why Atletico would want Gallagher, who has been described as “priceless” by Mauricio Pochettino.

The Englishman was superb defensively last season, making 85 tackles in the Premier League. It put him in the top 15 players for that category, as per FBref.

He could be perfect for Diego Simeone, a manager renowned for his defensive tactics and style of play.

However, it is really hard to imagine Atletico forking out £50m on a midfielder. Unless that price tag comes down, it is unlikely that Gallagher will be joining the Champions League club this summer.

A contract renewal at Chelsea or a move to another Premier League outfit seems way more likely. As the England international’s deal continues to run down, though, his situation at Stamford Bridge is certainly something to keep an eye on during this transfer window.
