On June 20, Russian troops intensified their attacks in Shumy and New York in the Donetsk region. The situation also remains tense in the Pokrovsk sector, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine says.
"Russia has become more active in the Toretsk sector, trying to force Ukrainian defenders out of their positions near Shumy and New York. The battle continues," the statement reads.
Pokrovsk direction
In addition, according to the Ukrainian military, Russia remains particularly active in the Pokrovsk sector.
"Since the beginning of the day, it has made 12 attempts to break through Ukrainian defense in the areas of Oleksandropil, Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, Novoselivka Persha, and Tonenke. Ten of them are still ongoing," they add.
The Ukraine's General Staff notes that the situation in the Pokrovsk sector remains tense.
"The Ukrainian defense forces are taking measures to deplete the offensive potential of the occupiers," the Ukrainian military department says.

As of June 20, as of 10 a.m., 47 combat engagements took place. The Russian invaders fired 523 times at the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and populated areas.
