Chelsea should ask for ‘outstanding’ Aston Villa player in exchange for Ian Maatsen – opinion

It has been reported that Chelsea are close to making their first big sale of the summer transfer window.

Multiple sources have said that left-back Ian Maatsen is close to being on the move, with Aston Villa the side who agreed terms with the Blues.

This is despite the fact that it is believed the Dutchman was far more keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund, who he starred for and even started a Champions League final for last season.

Some of the reports surrounding this potential transfer hint that an Aston Villa player could be heading the opposite direction.

Of course, there is many who think it would be Jhon Duran based on previous interest, although it was hinted it could well be another player.

If this is to be the case, there is a clear number one choice for the Blues to bring in.

Chelsea should ask for Emi Martinez in exchange for Maatsen

The goalkeeper position is one with a lot of uncertainty surrounding it at this point, and this would make Emi Martinez the perfect addition for the club to make.

The World Cup winner has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the game over the past few seasons.

He has been described as ‘outstanding’ by Joe Cole and would likely be a player Villa would be desperate to keep hold of.

However, there is currently no clarity about who is set to start the season between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.

Uncertainty over goalkeeper at Chelsea

New manager Enzo Maresca reportedly singled out Djordje Petrovic for praise during his interview process.

However, it has since been claimed that he is looking forward to working with last season’s number two, Robert Sanchez.

It is arguable that both need upgrading if the Blues are going to be back to where they want to be in the table, and there is no doubt Martinez would be a superb addition to their promising squad.
