A spokesperson for Cambridge City Council explained: “On Monday, we began delivering a project at Skaters’ Meadow to help protect three young trees, a large old willow and a green space in the area. This was requested by our residents through the environmental improvement programme.

“The work we are carrying out will see timber tree trunks installed either side of the trees to prevent vehicles from parking close to them. Parking too close to the trees damages the grass and can harm the roots, negatively impacting the health of the trees.

“The council is committed to protecting and planting more trees as well as being committed to improving biodiversity. This can be seen through our tree strategy which outlines how we manage trees to maximise their benefits and our biodiversity strategy which recognises the importance of a healthy biodiverse environment and how we plan to protect and improve it in the city.”
