‘Delighted’: Eddie Jordan says Aston Martin’s Lawrence Stroll is doing something ‘absolutely phenomenal’ now

Aston Martin has undoubtedly been one of the teams that has impressed in Formula 1 with its turnaround in performance.

The team went from being a midfield straggler that finished regularly out of the points to being one of Red Bull‘s closest challengers in 2023.

Signing world champion Fernando Alonso has been pivotal to their performance on the track, with performance director Tom McCullough branding him the ‘most efficient’ driver he has ever worked with on the grid.

The team is heavily investing in its resources having opened up their new wind tunnel last year, while also switching to Honda power units from 2026. It has also signed several key personnel, including former Red Bull designer Dan Fallows and experienced engineer Bob Bell.

Speaking on the Formula for Success podcast, Eddie Jordan is hopeful that this will pay off in the future.

Eddie Jordan hopes Lawrence Stroll investment reaps rewards

The Silverstone-based outfit has been under various guises since it became Aston Martin, with its origins dating back to the Jordan F1 team which competed in the championship between 1991 and 2005.

It was later sold to the Midland Group, then again to Dutch car company Spyker, before coming under the ownership of Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya. The team was known as Force India until midway through the 2018 season when it was sold to a consortium led by Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll.

Stroll has been the main investor in the team since the takeover, having poured a lot of money into upgrading their outdated facilities in a bid to improve their chances of competing at the top of F1.

Jordan is hopeful the investment can yield success, having himself only managed a handful of race wins and coming close to a Drivers’ Championship with Heinz-Harald Frentzen in 1999.

“I’m delighted with the investment Lawrence is putting into F1, it’s absolutely phenomenal. I just hope he gets the kind of success he deserves out of it,” said Jordan.

“In my case, I kept myself under maximum pressure that I never really realised I was making money until I came to sell the business.”

Aston Martin looking to improve its fortunes

After their impressive 2023 season, Aston Martin has not been able to capitalise on their form in 2024.

The team has slipped back to fifth in the Constructors’ Championship and faces a challenge from Red Bull sister team RB, whose car will receive a significant upgrade heading into the European rounds.

Alonso has resigned for the 2025 season and beyond while there is some ambiguity over teammate Lance Stroll’s position going forward.
