Expert explains what is more likely for Chiefs future, staying in Missouri or moving to Kansas

The Kansas City Chiefs have been given a green light on their quest to find a solution to their unprecedented future at Arrowhead Stadium.

Despite the offseason being fixated around the NFL Draft, free agency, OTAs, and mandatory minicamp, the Kansas City Chiefs front office has had to deal with a pressing issue.

In April, the franchise proposed a stadium-tax extension to the residents of Jackson County to help subsidize the renovations to bring Arrowhead Stadium into the modern era.

Owner Clark Hunt and Team President Mark Donovan were left to seek other options because the residents voted against the motion 60-40.

Therefore, the franchise stated all options were on the table with their lease on Arrowhead set to expire in 2031.

Kansas reporter hints that Missouri still has the edge to keep both teams

Per Kansas reporter Peter Mundo on X, “I still believe Missouri has the edge to keep the teams.

“The teams now have leverage for the first time to go back to KCMO, Jackson County and Missouri. Business deals are all about leverage. Teams had none, and don’t want to leave the region. Now they have it.”

Mundo has suggested that the Kansas City Chiefs now hold the leverage when returning to the bargaining table with KCMO, Jackson County, and Missouri.

In addition, in a statement by the mayor, he also acknowledges the ‘leverage’ the teams hold because of the recent vote in the Kansas House.

Long way to go before a final decision is made about the Chiefs’ home

The latest development casts more uncertainty over the ever-growing issue with the Kansas City Chiefs.

There are still countless hoops and hurdles for the Chiefs to get through before a concrete decision can be made over their long-term future.

Donovan hinted that the groundwork would begin when the 2026 World Cup concluded, with Arrowhead one of the special stadia selected for the iconic sporting tournament.

Nonetheless, Lucas acknowledges that a very real opportunity has opened up for Clark Hunt’s state-of-the-art stadium.
