Report: What Newcastle sources are now saying about using Sandro Tonali in a swap deal this summer

Newcastle United sources have now responded after hearing of a potential summer transfer which could see them offload Sandro Tonali already.

Having made the big money move for Sandro Tonali last summer, Newcastle are yet to really see any reward with the Italian suspended until early on in the new season.

The Toon are in need of selling some players this month to balance the books against the upcoming PSR deadline.

Although it is not believed Newcastle need to sell a player of Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak‘s calibre to do so, selling Tonali would certainly ease any concerns.

The 24-year-old has only played 12 times for Newcastle since signing and club sources have now responded to the suggestion he could depart over the coming weeks.

Newcastle sources hit back over Sandro Tonalo exit claim

Having competed in the Champions League for the first time in two decades, Newcastle’s 2023/24 campaign certainly provided a rollercoaster ride.

But the Magpies were unable to secure a spot in Europe for the upcoming campaign with injuries riddling their squad over the season.

Improved squad depth is going to be required over the coming months if Newcastle are to learn from their struggles.

There has seemingly been the suggestion that Newcastle would consider trading Tonali back to AC Milan this summer to bring in centre-back Fikayo Tomori.

However, The Chronicle have now claimed sources at the club have played down this suggestion as they hope to see a resurgent Tonali upon his return.

Newcastle have supported Tonali throughout his off-field issues and are hoping he can come out of it on the other side and repay their faith in him.

Adding to the rejection of any possible swap deal, Lee Ryder claims the club would not entertain any cut-price sale of Tonali this summer.

Newcastle may now see Sandro Tonali trust repaid

The Italian’s lengthy ban from football is set to end in time for the home game against Tottenham Hotspur in their third game of the campaign.

However, it will be interesting to see whether Howe would be willing to bring Tonali straight back into the starting XI considering he will have been absent for 10 months.

But he will be returning just three games into the season at a stage where players are also potentially still finding their fitness after the summer break.

Regardless, it is positive news for Newcastle and their fans will be eager to see their big-money midfielder back in action.
