Gary Lineker and Micah Richards wowed by Arsenal ace Kai Havertz at Euro 2024

Kai Havertz has been leading the line for Germany at Euro 2024. He found the back of the net in the opening game, as Scotland were put to the sword in Munich.

After that 5-1 defeat, Kieran Tierney was quick to praise Havertz. Now, Lineker and Richards have followed suit.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, the former England striker said: “I don’t think he’s ever going to be prolific, but Havertz, I think, has turned himself from a false-nine into a nine.

“He’s impressive as a nine, and he will try and run in behind, which is really important. But he can also hold it up, he’s got a really good touch. I think we’ve found his position… He’s a nine.”

The ex-Manchester City full-back agreed with this statement, adding: “He’s just intelligent. The timing of his runs is impeccable.”

Mikel Arteta did not truly unleash Havertz as a striker at Arsenal until around the turn of the year, having previously persisted with an experiment of deploying him in midfield.

After being given the freedom to spearhead the attack for the Gunners, though, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength.

Havertz went on to enjoy his most successful season in English football in terms of end product, as he provided a number of crucial goals over the course of the run-in.

What is Mikel Arteta planning for Havertz at Arsenal?

Whilst Havertz has now established himself as the Gunners’ first choice centre-forward, Arsenal are still in the market for a new striker this summer.

Arsenal were keen to sign Benjamin Sesko, before the Slovenian opted to extend his stay at RB Leipzig.

Whilst Havertz will start the new season as Arsenal’s striker, he likely will face fresh competition for his starting berth in that role.
