Jac Caglianone explains how he wants to be remembered at Florida

The collegiate career of Jac Caglianone all but came to an end on Wednesday with Florida’s loss to Texas A&M in the semifinals of the College World Series. With that being the case, it came time for him and the Gators to reflect on his time in Gainesville.

Caglianone spoke about how many would remember him and his three years following the 6-0 shutout to the Aggies. For him, he hopes that fans recall how all-in he was for his team and for their program.

“Really just as somebody who gave it their all,” said Caglianone. “Day-in and day-out, I just wanted to fight for these guys next to me.”

Caglianone thinks nothing in his time at Florida could have been possible without everyone else in the dugout with him. That’s why he also took a moment after to thank all of them, whether his coaching staff or teammates, for helping him to accomplish what he did.

“Yeah, to be honest with you, I can’t thank the coaches here enough for all they have done to help me get to where I am today. The people that I’ve met along the way and played with? It’s something that I won’t ever take for granted,” Caglianone said. “I appreciate Sully for taking a chance on me in high school and getting to this point.”

Caglianone has done about everything you can do on a diamond over his three seasons as a Gator.

As a hitter, Caglianone has batted .355 at his 634 opportunities. That includes his new career home-run record with the program after hitting his 75th against Kentucky earlier on Wednesday. With six home runs in Omaha, he also finished with 35 total to break the single-season record.

At first base, he also recorded 648 put outs and only 11 errors for a fielding percentage of .985.

Finally, as a pitcher, Caglianone finished with a record of 12-6 over 34 outings in 148.1 innings on the mound over the last two years. He posted 170 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.55 while holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .208.

All that led to two selections to the All-SEC First Team. He has also a two-time finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Trophy, and John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. He was a Consensus All-American in 2023 too with more honors likely to come from 2024.

Caglianone is going down in the record books regardless of how his final outing as a Gator ended. Now, with it over, he hopes that Florida thinks back on him as someone who left it all out there in the end.
