Aston Villa are looking to get off the mark in this summer’s transfer window as they now negotiate personal terms with one of their targets.

Unai Emery‘s side are setting themselves up for a big 2024/25 campaign with Aston Villa having secured themselves a spot in the Champions League.

Quality will be needed if Villa are able to compete on all fronts this upcoming season with a new format of Champions League also being played for the first time.

Villa are already closing in on the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen after reaching an agreement to secure his signature on Wednesday night.

However, the Villans are also working on other potential additions this summer with talks underway with one player over personal terms.

And it is believed these talks have left the player’s current club absolutely furious.

Aston Villa leave selling club furious with deal nearing

Emery could be set to lose one of his regulars from Villa Park over the coming weeks with talks underway to see Douglas Luiz head to Juventus.

However, Villa could well see a player come the other way in the proposed deal for their Brazilian midfielder this summer.

It has been claimed Weston McKennie is a player of interest for Villa in exchange for the 26-year-old midfielder.

But there is another Juventus midfielder who Villa are now discussing personal terms with in Enzo Barrenechea.

According to journalist Romeo Agresti, Juventus have been left frustrated they are now on the verge of losing their 23-year-old midfielder.

With talks to include McKennie in a swap deal for Luiz stalling, Juventus have been forced to find a solution which has ended up being Barrenechea.

And it has been described as ‘no laughing matter’ for Juventus after McKennie has caused a real issue for the Old Lady.

Aston Villa closing in on seriously exciting youngster

Barrenechea is a player who is coming through the ranks in Italy after he spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Frosinone Calcio.

The youngster started 32 times in Serie A for for the struggling outfit but had received some big praise along the way.

Former Frosinone manager Eusebio Di Francesco waxed lyrical about the midfielder having worked with him during his loan spell with the relegated side.

“Barrenechea is the real point guard that we didn’t have. In training he told me that we are too strong for him and he didn’t want to play but I needed his geometry and I let him play because he guaranteed me that he would last 60-70 minutes, he went even further,” he told the Italian media.

“We have many talented guys and with us we can achieve results.”

With McKennie seemingly causing issues over a potential move to Villa Park, perhaps Villa are landing themselves a better deal with the potential addition of Barrenechea.
