Jamie Carragher comments on Newcastle's Anthony Gordon as England limp to Euro 2024 draw with Denmark

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon was an unused substitute as England limped to a 1-1 draw with Denmark at Euro 2024.

The Magpies star made the Three Lions squad for the tournament after a superb campaign for his club.

Gordon registered 11 goals and 10 assists from 35 Premier League outings for Newcastle, showing his credentials as one of England’s best young talents.

The 23-year-old was a worthy pick for the England team for Euro 2024, but after two games, he is yet to take to the pitch.

Gordon was an unused substitute in the Three Lions’ win over Serbia, and that was also the case for the dour draw with the Danes.

Jamie Carragher, taking to X in the second half of the encounter in Frankfurt, mentioned the Newcastle man in wake of the spate of substitutions.

Jamie Carragher wishes Newcastle ace Anthony Gordon came on for England

The Liverpool legend wrote on X: “Pleased Southgate has made changes, as by the look of England so far they are going to need real energy from the bench in every game.

“Disappointed Anthony Gordon wasn’t one of those changes.”

Alan Shearer also admitted on BBC One (20/6/2024, 20:04) after the game that he would have played Gordon against Denmark in order to help Harry Kane out.

Gordon deserves to feature for England against Slovenia

Although England are still in a good position after the match, it wasn’t a great performance and they will be disappointed not to have picked up all three points.

The Three Lions are next up against Slovenia on Tuesday, and it would be good to see the Newcastle ace start, or at the very least get a runout in the second half.
