Everton have now offered £15m Tottenham target a contract, 192 Premier League appearances - journalist

Everton have now made a significant move in an attempt to beat Tottenham to a transfer target.

The Toffees are not blessed with millions to spend in the market this summer, and actually need to sell a player or two in order to comply with the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – according to Sky Sports.

As a result, Everton are taking a look at the free agent market, and have now offered one of the best players in that department a contract…

Everton make Wilfred Ndidi offer

Respected journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato has now claimed that Everton have offered Wilfred Ndidi a contract – after his deal with Leicester expired.

The Nigeria international helped the Foxes win the Championship title last season, scoring six goals while also providing six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Aouna adds that Leicester are also trying to keep Ndidi at the King Power Stadium, although Everton – as well as Marseille and Lyon – have now put a contract offer on the table for the man with 192 Premier League appearances.

It comes after HITC exclusively revealed that Tottenham are monitoring the Nigerian as Ange Postecoglou aims to improve his central midfield department, amid strong doubts over the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Leicester paid £15m to sign Ndidi from Genk back in January 2017, and he has since made 273 appearances for the Foxes – winning the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield in 2021.

Nigeria international on a free transfer would be superb business

In our view, this has potential to be the signing of the summer for Everton if the Toffees can fend off competition.

Ndidi is still just 27 years of age – right in the midst of his prime – and has proven himself to be a seriously well rounded midfielder over the years, somebody who can get involved in the attacking third, but also be a nuisance for opponents defensively.

Brendan Rodgers even once described the Everton target as a “world class” footballer, while also comparing him to Steven Gerrard.

With Everton potentially waving farewell to Amadou Onana this summer – amid interest from Arsenal – signing Ndidi on a free transfer would be a perfect solution to the problem.
