Report: West Ham now submit £6m bid to sign player with 68 Premier League goals

West Ham have now submitted a bid to sign a player with plenty of Premier League experience.

Tim Steidten has a number of holes to fill in Julen Lopetegui‘s squad this summer after a difficult end to the 2023/24 campaign – which saw the Hammers win just two of their final 12 fixtures.

A central defender is needed after Angelo Ogbonna’s contract expired, while a new forward also wouldn’t go amiss as Michail Antonio and Danny Ings scored just eight goals combined last season.

Now, a bid has been made by West Ham in an attempt to solve the lack of goals in attack…

West Ham make Wilfried Zaha bid

A story from Fotomac in Turkey now claims that West Ham have submitted a bid to sign Wilfried Zaha.

The Turkish news outlet believe West Ham have offered Galatasaray €7m (£6m) to sign the Ivory Coast international – although the Super Lig outfit want €10m (£8m).

Nevertheless, Fotomac state that negotiations are continuing between West Ham and Galatasaray, with the Turkish giants keen to sell Zaha in order to remove his annual salary of £3.75m from the wage bill.

The Ivorian scored ten goals and provided five assists in 42 appearances throughout his debut campaign with Galatasaray – who he joined on a free transfer after leaving Crystal Palace in July 2023.

During his time in south London, Zaha – who David Moyes previously called a “big player” – amassed 305 Premier League appearances, scoring 68 goals while also providing 29 assists.

Hammers could do better, but short-term deal may be fruitful

In our view, West Ham could do better than sign Zaha this summer, in terms of longevity.

The man from Abidjan turns 32 in November, and may not be able to replicate his dynamic performances in attack for much longer.

Therefore, only a short-term deal to sign Zaha would make sense for West Ham, although if Steidten can strike an agreement of that style, it could prove to be a fantastic bit of business for a season or two.

As aforesaid, the Ivorian boasts 68 Premier League goals to his name, and was often a thorn in West Ham’s side with five goals and two assists in 17 appearances against the east Londoners.
