Report: How Eddie Howe really feels about Michael Olise as Newcastle eye £60m transfer

Eddie Howe has big plans for Newcastle United, and that means signing more big players.

He has already welcomed the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak to St James’ Park, both of which have proven they are world class players for Newcastle United. Sandro Tonali was also convinced to make the move to the North East, and there is a lot of excitement ahead of his return from suspension in August.

Next on the agenda is a right winger, with the Magpies expected to splash the cash on another marquee recruit.

Newcastle interested in Michael Olise

Newcastle have been linked with some exciting players in that position, most of which would fit the bill of taking Eddie Howe’s team to the next level.

Right now, the most exciting target is Michael Olise, and he appears to be the player who Newcastle are focussing their efforts on.

It has been reported that Toon officials have made contact with Crystal Palace about a deal, with the 22-year-old having a £60million release clause in his contract.

The Magpies are now allowed to speak to Olise about a transfer, but he has plenty of other suitors. One of those is Chelsea, who are currently viewed as the favourites to secure his signature.

How Eddie Howe views Michael Olise

But Newcastle must believe they have some chance of tempting Olise to Tyneside, and a deal would certainly delight Howe.

According to the Athletic, Howe believes that Olise is ideal to play on the right of his front three, where he would join Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack.

That would be some forward line, and it could make Newcastle one of the most feared attacking sides in the Premier League.

Not only that, but there would be longevity in that front three. Isak is 24-years-old, while Gordon is 23-years-old. As for Olise, he is even younger at 22 and, like the other two players, is yet to hit his peak.

That is why so many clubs are fighting to sign Olise, as he can get even better. And that would certainly happen at Newcastle, as Eddie Howe knows exactly how to get more out of his players and take them to an even greater level.

Howe could be disappointed in Olise pursuit

But while Howe would love to welcome Olise to Newcastle United, it feels like he is going to be disappointed.

Other than the Toon project and the lure of working with Howe, Newcastle do not have much else to offer Olise. They cannot give him European football, whereas the likes of Chelsea can.

It is incredibly exciting to see Newcastle try and sign Olise from Crystal Palace, but it feels like a transfer pursuit that will ultimately end with the Magpies having to look elsewhere.

That might mean that Howe has to identify someone else who he deems ideal for his Newcastle system.
