'The latest club': £50m star Spurs are reportedly trying to sign is also wanted by Atletico Madrid - Sky journalist

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as they look to bolster their ranks.

Spurs have improved since last season and their future looks bright with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

However, there’s still work to do with regards to the quality and strength in depth of the Tottenham squad.

Midfield is an area where Spurs could potentially strengthen, amid speculation linking Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with a move away from N17.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with one Premier League midfielder, but it looks as though other clubs – including a Spanish giant – are joining the race.

Tottenham target Conor Gallagher now wanted by Atletico Madrid

The player in question is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. Spurs have been linked with the Blues ace for months now, but in recent days, speculation has emerged linking him to other clubs.

For instance, Arsenal are said to have entered the race for Gallagher, along with Atletico Madrid.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now spoken about Los Colchoneros entering the race for the reported Tottenham target.

“Atletico Madrid the latest club to express an interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher,” he said on Sky Sports News.

“They are one of a number of clubs in Europe and the Premier League keen on signing Gallagher.”

Sheth also explained how Gallagher’s suitors would have to wait until after Euro 2024 for the player to decide on his future.

“Gallagher has a year left on his contract and he will decide on his future after the Euros,” he continued.

“Gallagher wants to assess all his options but his only focus for now is on England.”

Signing Gallagher will not be easy for Tottenham

A move for Gallagher this summer could see Tottenham needing to part with around £50million this summer.

His future remains uncertain amid Chelsea’s apparent need to sell homegrown players for PSR reasons, but Spurs will be up against several big suitors for his signature.

There’s also a good chance that any deal for Gallagher could drag on into the summer, with the player seemingly keen to stay put at Stamford Bridge.

With that in mind, signing Gallagher may not be all that easy for Spurs amid hurdles with regards to the player’s stance and also the strong competition.
