Harry Kane sends two-word message to Kieran Trippier after England draw with Denmark

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier hit a personal milestone as England drew 1-1 with Denmark on Thursday.

After a poor display in their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia, Thursday’s performance was even worse. England were massively uninspiring in Frankfurt, and were unable to hold on to the lead that Harry Kane had given them.

It was a disjointed display by Gareth Southgate’s side, but one that leaves them with four points heading into the final game. England are top of the group ahead of Tuesday’s match against Slovenia, with qualification in sight.

That is the only major positive to take, but it was still an evening to remember for Newcastle United‘s Kieran Trippier.

As expected, he was deployed at left-back yet again in the absence of Luke Shaw, playing the full 90 minutes in a back four alongside Toon target Marc Guehi, John Stones and Kyle Walker.

For Trippier, it was his 50th appearance in an England shirt. That is a big landmark, and one that he has reflected on via his official Instagram account.

Following the 1-1 draw with Denmark, Trippier posted a selection of images from the game and commented on what it meant for him and the team.

The 33-year-old wrote: “Proud moment personally to have reached 50 caps for England but as a team disappointed we didn’t get all 3 points today. We are top of our group and are focused on our next game. Thank you for the fantastic support.”

Trippier received a reply from the captain, with Harry Kane sending him a message of support.

Kane replied: “Congratulations brother.”

Major moment for the Newcastle United defender

While it was not a perfect night to celebrate your 50th cap, it is a landmark that Trippier should be very proud of. He made his debut in June 2017, coming off the bench in a 3-2 friendly defeat to France.

Trippier will be hoping that he has 55 caps by the end of Euro 2024, as that would mean England have at least made it to the semi finals, and possibly gone all the way to the final – and potentially won the entire competition…

But that is extremely wishful thinking right now, as performances would suggest that the Three Lions are not going to bring football home this summer.

It has been a really poor start to the Euros, with Southgate under huge pressure to lift the mood and get a tune out of this immensely talented group of players.
