'Abnormal': Daniel Sturridge blown away by what £47m reported Liverpool target did at Euro 2024 yesterday

Liverpool are being given the perfect window into some potential signings this summer.

Although it’s never a wise idea to buy any player on the back of an international tournament alone, they can help to confirm previously held ideas.

With the world of football recruitment being the way it is right now, clubs are already aware of players long before they burst onto the international scene.

Liverpool themselves are one of the best in the business when it comes to finding value in the market. FSG have their scouts everywhere and it’s rare that they’ll be surprised by a previously unknown talent.

But every so often, one of those on their radar will burst through and make themselves impossible to ignore. As former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge has discovered, one player has just done that at Euro 2024.

Daniel Sturridge raves about Nico Williams

Liverpool are reportedly in the market for a forward this summer. Arne Slot is keen to add some firepower to his attack.

With that in mind, there are so many players for Liverpool to keep an eye on at Euro 2024.

From Georgia’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, to Florian Wirtz of Germany, there are loads who would fit what the Reds are looking for.

Another who is reportedly already on Liverpool’s radar is Spain forward Nico Williams. The 21-year-old has been impressing at Athletic Bilbao for a couple of years now.

With rumours that Williams could be on the move this summer though, his displays for Spain will be of extra interest to Liverpool.

And according to Sturridge, Inaki Williams’ younger brother has been phenomenal. Taking to X to comment on the youngster’s performance against Italy on Thursday, the former Liverpool man admitted to being blown away.

“Lamine Yamal is top class and Nico Williams is doing bits!” Sturridge raved.

“These 2 guys are abnormal in terms of wingers for Spain. Speed, skill and direct! Spain have a bright future with these 2.”

Can Liverpool sign Nico Williams?

There’s little question that Williams has been on Liverpool’s radar. The first reports that the Reds have been watching Williams go back two years already.

However, whether they can bring him to the club or not is a bit of a different matter.

There appear to be two problems with regard to Williams arriving at Anfield. The first is that the Basque is reportedly keen to stay in Spain.

The second – as journalist Graeme Bailey exclusively told Rousing The Kop last month – is that Williams is looking for mega wages to leave Athletic. Liverpool have seemingly been put off.

Given how good he has looked in Germany so far, some may advocate paying his reported £47m release clause and giving Williams what he wants. But we’re not sure Liverpool will feel the same way.
