Tosh McKinlay tells Celtic 'cult hero' he would be warmly welcomed back at Parkhead

Celtic are searching for potential additions and supporters are curious about who Brendan Rodgers could add to his squad.

In among links with reported targets such as Martin Dubravka and Peter Vindahl Jensen, there has been chatter in Hoops circles involving one or two former players who may be available this window, even if merely speculative.

The mind wanders once the market is open due to excitement, and in line with more or less every window, the subject of Kieran Tierney’s future at Arsenal has been circulated following suggestions that he could be free to leave North London for a fee of £10 million.

Per Transfermarkt, the Scotland international made 170 appearances for Celtic, registering eight goals and 37 assists, establishing himself as a hero before departing in 2019.

With his next steps unclear, Tosh McKinlay has now had his say on the prospective scenario of Tierney returning to Celtic one day.

Tosh McKinley on Kieran Tierney and a future return to Celtic

Every transfer window, there is talk of Tierney one day completing a return to Celtic, and he has never ruled out the prospect of making a dramatic comeback to his boyhood club.

Per The Daily Record, McKinley believes he would be embraced warmly if the scenario mentioned were to ever unfold, though he did indicate it would need to be an agreement that suited all parties.

He stated: “Kieran has done the business here and won a lot of trophies. He’s gone to England and then to Real Sociedad, so we will have to see what happens next. It will be entirely up to the manager and Kieran if he wants to come back. But he’s a cult hero here, so it would be great to have him back.

“I wouldn’t say he’s got unfinished business because he won it all first time round, lifted a lot of trophies, was involved in Trebles and an Invincible season. Kieran is a great player and it will be be decided by him if he wants to come back or not.”

Tierney is a magnificent footballer who would rank in the very top bracket of players that Celtic could attract to Parkhead in the modern climate; nevertheless, whether they could meet his enormous wage demands and solicit a transfer fee (or loan figure) for his services is a different question entirely.

According to Salary Sport, he earns a pay packet of £110,000 per week, which he is bound to until 2026. There would need to be a significant level of negotiation from all parties to whittle that down to an affordable set of terms.

Nevertheless, all Celtic fans would relish the thought of having Tierney back at his boyhood club. If it does ever happen in the future, there would be a great deal of mass excitement among the support.
