Pedri says Man City have a midfielder who is better than Man United's Bruno Fernandes

The 2024 European Championship has a significant number of top-level midfielders currently in action for their countries.

In fact, a large number of Premier League midfielders have been showing their quality on the international stage, with six of the 14 Manchester City players at the Euros being midfielders.

From further afield, another top midfielder currently representing his country is Barcelona’s Pedri, who has started both of Spain’s opening games of the tournament.

With the group stage of the tournament in full swing, Pedri has now shared his verdict on one particular City star and how he compares to one of Manchester United’s midfielders.

Pedri says Phil Foden is better than Bruno Fernandes

Appearing in a recent video shared on the official Euro 2024 TikTok channel, Pedri was involved in a winner-stays-on challenge where he had to pick between certain midfield players currently featuring in the latest international tournament in Germany.

When asked to pick between Bruno Fernandes and Phil Foden, the Barcelona star chose Foden.

In 270 senior appearances for the Blues, the 24-year-old has scored 87 goals and provided 53 assists, lifting six Premier League trophies along the way.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in a deal worth an initial fee of £47m back in January 2020, Fernandes has scored 79 goals and delivered 66 assists in 233 games across all competitions.

Foden had a better Premier League season than Fernandes

Looking back over the most recent Premier League campaign, even though the Red Devils star played more minutes than the Englishman, Foden still managed to score more goals than him (19 vs 10), whilst also delivering the same number of assists (8).

The England international also made more goal-creating actions (21 vs 19) than Fernandes and also ended the campaign with a higher total of progressive carries (93 vs 86) and a higher percentage of successful take-ons (46.1% vs 43.2%).

Earlier this month, Fernandes’ United teammate, Kobbie Mainoo, said that he’s been amazed by Foden’s “crazy” technical ability while at the Euros.

With all of that in mind, it comes as no surprise to us that Pedri has picked Foden as being a better midfielder than the United star.
