Penn State news, notes, and updates for June 21 include three new betting lines for 2024 Nittany Lion games, headlines of the day, and more.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top stories and tweets about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with Circa’s ‘Games of the Year’ sheet. The annual listing of early point spreads for some of the biggest contests on the complete college football calendar features three Penn State games. And, the Lions are favored to win two of them. Head coach James Franklin’s is a five-point favorite for its Oct. 5 road trip to USC. It is also a five-point favorite over Wisconsin as well in Madison on Oct 26. The Lions are a five-point underdog, then, in their Nov. 2 matchup with Ohio State at home. Franklin made clear that, while those games and others against new Big Ten teams are exciting, the program is focused this summer on fundamentals and preparing to play West Virginia in its home opener.

“It’s just one game at a time, 1-0 mentality,” Franklin said. At the end of the day, we got to make sure we can play man coverage, make sure we can run inside zone. And, that we can cover a kick. And at the end of the day, we got to keep the main thing the main thing. Which is, developing these young men. And, putting them in the best position to be successful for them, for our fans, for the lettermen, for everybody for the community, to give us a chance to beat West Virginia.”

The Lions are a favorite against the Mountaineers. FanDuel has them to win by 10.5 points. That game starts at Noon ET on Aug. 31. FOX will televise the contest.

In other news, as Blue-White Illustrated first reported on Thursday, veteran Penn State defensive end Zuriah Fisher is out indefinitely due to injury. The nature of the setback is unknown.

Quote of the day

“It’s been going good, honestly. We’re both coming in at the same time, so that’s kind of something we share. I learned some of the defense this week and he showed me different ways that the players have learned visually and how they take notes and stuff. He kind of just walked me through a lot of the defense and how it’s starting to click. It was pretty cool.”
