Celtic reportedly set sights on Premier League goalkeeper as price tag comes to light

Celtic are probing the market for a new goalkeeper and it isn’t surprising that several names have been mentioned as potential successors to Joe Hart.

Filtering through links, the most prominently referenced individuals mentioned appear to be Newcastle United veteran Martin Dubravka and Sparta Prague’s Peter Vindahl Jensen.

Aston Villa stopper Viljami Sinisalo is also said to be on Celtic’s radar, representing a younger option between the sticks.

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher has frequently been floated as an individual who holds admiration in Parkhead corridors. Despite this, his £25 million price tag is likely to price the Scottish Premiership champions out of a swoop.

Now, information has come to light suggesting that one of Kelleher’s international teammates could be on Brendan Rodgers’ wishlist.

According to The Irish Sun, Celtic could turn to Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers in their hunt for a new number one, with Crystal Palace also in pursuit of the Republic of Ireland international.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola is open to letting the 25-year-old depart the Vitality Stadium this summer to bring in a new stopper; nevertheless, the Spaniard has set a price tag of £10 million for his the Maynooth-born man.

Travers is said to have been evaluated by Celtic as a ‘more affordable and realistic option’ compared to Kelleher, but whether there is realistic hope that a deal could be struck remains to be seen.

Last campaign, he made 21 appearances across all competitions combined for Bournemouth and Stoke City, spending the second half of 2023/24 on loan at the latter. Travers conceded 27 times and kept five clean sheets in total [Transfermarkt].

With the transfer window well underway, the Irishman would be a compelling signing to address the burning question on everyone’s lips. Either way, only time will tell regarding who Celtic’s new goalkeeper could be.
