Kieran Tierney shares ‘heartbroken’ message after Euro 2024 disaster, stars and Arsenal fans respond

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney is now returning to the club early after picking up an injury with Scotland at Euro 2024.

Kieran Tierney’s Euro 2024 campaign has ended in disaster.

The Arsenal left-back got off to a bad start in the tournament as Scotland were thrashed by Germany in the opening match of the competition.

After that 5-1 chastening, Tierney was quick to congratulate Kai Havertz, as the Gunners’ striker had gotten on the scoresheet for the host nation.

On a personal level, things went from bad to worse for the defender in Scotland’s next game. Up against Grant Xhaka’s Switzerland, the 27-year-old went down injured in the second half and immediately signalled to the bench that he was in serious trouble.

Moments later, the 47-cap international was being removed from the field of play on a stretcher, and it was clear at that point that his tournament was almost certainly over.

Arsenal star Kieran Tierney makes emotional statement

Scotland assistant coach John Carver today confirmed that Tierney has “an issue with his hamstring” and is leaving the camp to be “assessed by Arsenal,” as quoted by Sky Sports.

The full-back also made a statement of his own on social media: “Heartbroken doesn’t cut it. Love this team and these boys. This too shall pass.”

This is clearly a devastating end to his tournament, but he will still be desperately hoping that Scotland can build upon their 1-1 draw against Switzerland and progress to the knockout rounds of Euro 2024.

In the meantime, other players and Arsenal fans have responded to his heartfelt message.

Scotland captain Andy Robertson replied on Instagram with love heart emojis, as did Lyndon Dykes and Stuart Armstrong.

Arsenal fans on X have also sent messages of condolence.

One supporter said: “Come back stronger KIERAN! This shall pass too.”

Another wished him a: “Speedy recovery my friend.”

One Arsenal fan added: “This too was so deep.. We are with you kieran.. Come back stronger.”

Mikel Arteta will be hoping that the player can make a swift recovery. Arsenal were hoping to sell Tierney this summer, but his latest injury setback may well have jeopardised the club’s chances of offloading him.
