'He's quick': Gary Lineker impressed by 'special' Euro 2024 display from player Chelsea reportedly want

Gary Lineker absolutely loves the performance he’s just seen from a Chelsea transfer target at Euro 2024 in Germany.

He’s just waxed lyrical about a defender linked with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are linked with a number of central defenders in this summer window, which is perhaps not the greatest surprise following the exit of veteran Brazilian star Thiago Silva.

The Blues have already captured English defender Tosin Adarabioyo, 26, on a free transfer. That’s not stopped rumours linking them with more defensive additions, though.

Gary Lineker wowed by Chelsea target

Gary Lineker has delivered a glowing verdict on Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi after his England performance on Thursday night at Euro 2024.

The 23-year-old centre-back was imperious in defence during England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark. This followed up a great showing against Serbia in his nation’s tournament opener.

“Positives, Marc Guehi, what a performance. What made it even more special was the team were struggling… He can defend by the way,” Lineker told The Rest Is Football.

“We were all going we’re going to do a piece on Marc Guehi he’s been brilliant. He’s been absolutely superb, with and without the ball. He makes a mistake and we all go he’s made a mistake. But then he gets back. He doesn’t panic, he didn’t dive in. He’s got back because he’s quick, which is really useful. He waited and chose his moment, and his timing was perfect to block it.”

Marc Guehi stock must be rising

Football.London claimed at the end of May that Chelsea have Palace defender Guehi on their transfer radar this summer.

Since then, the centre-half has delivered an outstanding individual start to Euro 2024.

While England teammates around him look below par, the Palace man is proving he belongs on the biggest stage.

It’s been claimed in The Telegraph that Palace would demand at least £65m if they were to sell Guehi in this summer. Based on how comfortable he looks with England, that could still be good value for money.

In terms of from a Chelsea point of view, we’re not sure that Guehi should be a focus right now despite his obvious talent. The Blues are actually pretty well stocked at the back, while other areas look a bit light.
