The United States is allowing the Ukrainian army to strike military targets deep in Russia's rear with American weapons. After all, this is not a matter of geography, but of common sense, according to John Bass, the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

Bass quoted his colleague Jake Sullivan (National Security Advisor to the President of the United States - ed.) as saying, "This is not about geography. It's about common sense."

According to him, the United States wants to make sure that Russia cannot use its territory as a safe haven from which it can attack Ukrainian forces with impunity.

The United States has allowed Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons to strike at Russian territory. However, Washington has set restrictions - US weapons can only be used in border areas.

Later, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Western countries are discussing allowing attacks on Russian territory without restrictions on the direction or depth of the Russian rear.

At the same time, the ISW noted that US President Joe Biden is against allowing the Armed Forces to strike military targets in operational zones or deep in Russia's rear with US weapons.

Recently, Politico reported that the United States has authorized Ukraine to use American weapons to strike any Russian forces attacking across the border, not just those in the Kharkiv area.
