Gabby Agbonlahor has shared his verdict on who is better - John Stones or Rio Ferdinand

Manchester City currently have three members of their squad representing England in the 2024 European Championship.

After winning a fourth Premier League trophy in a row, Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker were selected for the England squad to feature in the current tournament.

With two group games played, the City trio have started both matches against Serbia and Denmark.

Now though, one pundit has shared his verdict on how one of those three City players compares to one of the key English players from the golden generation.

Gabby Agbonlahor picks between John Stones and Rio Ferdinand

Featuring in a recent video shared on the Daily Mail Sport TikTok channel, Gabby Agbonlahor, who made three senior appearances for England, was asked to pick between certain players from the current Three Lions camp and the 2004 side.

When asked to pick between Stones and Rio Ferdinand, the former Aston Villa attacker picked Ferdinand.

On the international stage, the former Manchester United defender made 81 appearances for England between 1997 and 2011.

In comparison, the City star has racked up 74 senior caps for the Three Lions, the first of which coming back in 2014.

The latest of Stones’ England appearances came in the 1-1 draw against Denmark on Thursday alongside his City teammates Foden and Walker.

Stones vs Ferdinand

At club level, Ferdinand won six Premier League titles in 12 years at Old Trafford, which is the same number of titles the City man has won in eight years at the Etihad Stadium.

Bearing in mind how the 45-year-old was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame last year, we feel that perhaps his reputation could be why Agbonlahor has chosen him over Stones, who Jordan Pickford recently described as one of the best defenders in the world right now, in this instance.

Also, it could be because the former Villa man played against Ferdinand on 12 occasions throughout their playing careers and didn’t win any of those games.

In our view, given what Stones has achieved at club level with City for such a long period of time, we feel that the majority of supporters would disagree with Agbonlahor’s decision here.
