Steve Cooper in talks with Leicester City players, he's also spoken to key man ahead of possible summer exit

Steve Cooper has already spoken to key players ahead of the new Premier League season.

Leicester City new boss Steve Cooper was appointed on Thursday, following the departure of Italian boss Enzo Maresca, who earned a move to Chelsea.

Maresca led the Foxes to a 1st place finish in the Championship last season, finishing on 97 points.

Cooper has stamped his authority on the club already, with him set to bring in a new set-piece coach from Norwich City.

He is also looking to keep some key figures at the King Power Stadium, including midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who is attracting interest from fellow Premier League clubs and abroad.

Despite it only being a few days into his reign, Cooper hasn’t slowed down with preparations.

The Welshman revealed that he has already held crucial talks with a key player ahead of the new campaign.

Steve Cooper on discussions with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at Leicester City

In his first interview with Leicester City following his appointment, Cooper said that he has already spoken with midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at the training ground, as well as phone calls with other first-team players.

The former Nottingham Forest boss will certainly want to retain the services of the battling midfielder as they look to build on their promotion winning campaign.

Dewsbury-Hall was pivotal in Leicester City winning the title last season with his 26 goal contributions.

Cooper also revealed that he has watched every Leicester City game from the 2023/24 season as he prepares for life at his new club.

Why Steve Cooper Leicester City talks are crucial

Suitors are already starting to emerge for Leicester City’s talent that helped them to the Championship title last season.

It may be difficult to withhold Ndidi from aspirations of playing in Europe, however the best man for the moment to persuade him is Cooper.

This early preparation from the manager won’t only benefit his plans going into the campaign, but could provide a reason for Leicester’s stardom to stay.

If the Foxes are looking to charge up the table, keeping the midfield three of Harry Winks, Dewsbury-Hall and Ndidi will be crucial, especially for Cooper’s set up which commonly involves three players in the centre of the park.

The combination of Cooper most likely looking to play the squad to their strengths after his monumental preparation, utilising a similar 4-3-3 formation as Maresca and the early talks with his players, is something that could persuade the cream of the crop to stay at Leicester as they look to restore their lofty heights of pre-relegation life.
