Arsenal issued transfer message by £52m summer target

Since Arteta’s arrival at Arsenal as their manager, the Gunners have been slowly putting together a squad which has returned them to the top end of the league.

Players like William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard have all provided huge improvements to the side which Arteta inherited.

It has not quite proven enough for them to get their hands on the Premier League title just yet, but the last two seasons have shown a lot of cause for optimism.

Arteta will be well aware of the areas which he needs to add to this summer if Arsenal are to improve and Xavi Simons is a player who Arsenal are believed to have made contact with already.

Speaking on the back of the Netherlands’ draw against France on Friday at Euro 2024, the Dutchman provided a very honest response on his future.

“I will decide my future after the Euros,” said the 21-year-old.

Any quick swoop for the in-demand playmaker may now look to be off the cards as his impressive Euro 2024 could well only increase his asking price.

Xavi Simons continues to impress at Euro 2024

The youngster has played a big role in the Netherlands’ opening two games as they sit on four points following their draw against France.

However, Simons will feel unlucky not to have won his side the game on Friday night as his goal was controversially disallowed.

BBC Sport’s coverage following the game saw the likes of Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney claim Simons’ goal should have stood.

Despite being just 21-years-old, clearly Simons is having no issue in playing on the biggest stage and that can only give interested clubs like Arsenal even more reassurance ahead of this summer.
