'Advancing': Fabrizio Romano says Aston Villa are now very close to signing 'outstanding' player

Aston Villa are looking to open their account for this summer’s transfer window and talks are now closing in on their first addition.

Although Aston Villa may be one of the sides in the Premier League who are coming under pressure of the upcoming PSR deadline at the end of the month, they’re still looking to add to their squad.

Unai Emery will demand signings this summer having secured Champions League football for the 2024/25 campaign.

Playing in the elite European competition will not only require a stronger squad but it will also need Villa to go into the new campaign with a squad full of quality in depth.

And that is what Villa are looking to do with talks underway to bring in a number of players already this summer.

Along with Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, Villa are now closing in on the addition of another exciting youngster over the coming days.

Aston Villa eyeing deal youngster from Premier League rivals

Work is going to be needed at Villa Park this summer with Douglas Luiz expected to be headed for the exit doors over the coming weeks.

Although Villa have secured themselves a spot in the Champions League, the Villans look set to be losing one of their top players from recent campaigns to Juventus.

A player may well be coming in the opposite direction in Enzo Barrenechea, however. But it would be a significant loss for Emery going into the new campaign.

And that has Villa looking to secure some early deals this summer as they prepare for what is going to be a testing 2024/25.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa are now advancing in their talks to sign Lewis Dobbin from Everton this summer.

A deal between the two sides has already been sealed for Tim Iroegbunam to go in the opposite direction.

With the deal for Iroegbunam to make the move to Goodison Park, surely negotiations for Dobbin to seal his Villa move will be fairly straightforward.

Lewis Dobbin still has a lot to prove

At the age of just 21-years-old, there is a lot of excitement about the potential of Dobbin from the early signs people have seen at Everton and Derby County.

In his 54 appearances for the Rams, Dobbin returned five goals and six assists which saw the youngster hailed by manager Paul Warne.

“He did some things outstanding, some things good and some things poor, which was the same with all the players,” he told the media.

Clearly, this is not a player who is going to arrive at Villa and uproot Ollie Watkins having only netted once for Everton, but he is a player who packs a lot of potential.
