PL boss has already told Derby County why they should sign 'excellent' player this summer - opinion

Derby County are linked with a Premier League forward ahead of the Championship season.

Derby County are preparing for life in the Championship following their promotion from League One at the second time of asking.

Paul Warne’s side managed to finish on an impressive 92 points, leaving them in 2nd place behind league winners Portsmouth.

However, Warne will have to look at bringing in some firepower to the ranks following the release of big names in attack, including the likes of Martyn Waghorn and Dwight Gayle.

Squad depth in wide areas is also severely lacking for the Rams, with reinforcements being crucial to Warne’s plans, as shown by the ongoing pursuit of Karamoko Dembele, who shone for Blackpool last season.

They have been linked with a Premier League forward who will certainly bring optimism to Pride Park ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Derby County target Jamal Lowe hailed by Steve Cooper

New Leicester City manager Steve Cooper previously commented on Derby County target Jamal Lowe, suggesting that he was ‘excellent’ in his time at Swansea City.

Cooper said of Lowe in January 2021: “In terms of performance levels I think he’s been excellent all season, but what a sign of resilience to keep going.

“The plan is to keep going, that’s the focus. He’s making good progress and we’ve asked him to do things which have been different for him in the past.

“He’s been a winger and we’ve brought him in with a certain idea to build him. He’s still building to what we want him to be, but he’ll never fail through a lack of trying.”

During Cooper’s stint with Swansea City, Lowe managed an impressive 14 goals in the 2020/21 Championship season, being utilised both out wide and through the middle.

Ever since his stand out season for the Swans, he has applied his trade for Bournemouth and QPR, before returning to the Swansea.com Stadium this season, where he achieved an impressive 12 goal contributions in 35 appearances.

Why Derby County must swoop for Jamal Lowe

The Jamaican international has the certified Championship quality that Derby must seize ahead of their new campaign.

The 29-year-old showed last season with Swansea City that he can do a job across the frontline, with him tallying appearances on either wing, as well as being utilised at centre-forward.

This addition could also push Nathaniel Mendez-Laing to hit the heights of the previous League One season, which saw him contribute an impressive 16 assists for the Rams.

Mendez-Laing’s versatility could also work well with Lowe, with both wingers being able to swap side and be more fluid in attack, something which could take Championship defences by surprise.

Per Cooper’s words, Lowe is a player who always pushes to be better and always gives 100%. Not only that, but he showed at Swansea that he has a scoring touch as well.

Warne should be looking at doing everything he possibly can to lure the attacking star to Pride Park, the signing would be a statement showing that Derby could be one to watch this season.
