Report: Middlesbrough now set to target reinforcements in one position after Aidan Morris signing

After signing Aidan Morris, the next transfer priority for Middlesbrough has been revealed.

Middlesbrough have been active on the transfer front this month, with two names already through the door and one on the way.

Luke Ayling and Delano Burgzorg have moved to the Riverside ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season on permanent deals from Leeds United and Mainz 05.

Boro are also close to bringing a third name through the door in the near future, with Aidan Morris expected to sign from MLS outfit, Columbus Crew.

The 2024 MLS campaign is still ongoing and Morris was in action for Columbus on June 20, providing an assist as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Inter Miami.

Columbus’ next fixture sees them face off with Sporting KC in the early hours of Saturday morning, with that game expected to be Morris’ last before he travels to England to complete his Boro switch.

Middlesbrough want to sign a striker after Aidan Morris transfer

Despite Middlesbrough looking set to have three brand new names through the door less than a month after the transfer window officially opened, Michael Carrick and co are seemingly not done strengthening their squad this summer.

Teesside Live have shared an update on Boro’s plans for the remainder of the window, claiming ‘a striker remains a priority’ as the club finalise their deal for Morris.

While the North East outfit have been quick to secure their incomings so far, though, Middlesbrough are expected to be patient when it comes to adding a centre-forward.

Tottenham U21 striker Will Lankshear has been linked with Boro recently, but Teesside Live are skeptical that move will happen.

This is because Kieran Scott has confirmed that the Boro will prioritise permanent transfers or loans which can be turned into permanent moves – something that the club are unlikely to be able to do with Lankshear.

Do Middlesbrough need another striker this summer

While Boro fans are likely pleased to see their club are still looking to add to their ranks following an early flurry of transfer activity, the striker position being seen as a priority may raise a few eyebrows.

Middlesbrough acted fast to replace 29-goal star Chuba Akpom following his move to Ajax last summer, bringing in Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Latte Lath took some time to adjust to the Championship but 16 goals in 30 league games last term means he is likely to be Carrick’s first-choice number nine in 2024/25.

Elsewhere, new signing Burgzorg can provide cover at centre-forward for Lath after he scored seven in 33 games for a weak Huddersfield Town team last term.

21-year-old Josh Coburn will also be looking to kick on at the Riverside this season after his 2023/24 campaign was derailed by injury.
