Getafe president shares interesting Mason Greenwood update

The race to sign Mason Greenwood for the 2024/25 season is heating up with Lazio offering a range of deals to United for his signature.

Now, Angel Torres, who is the president of Getafe has shared an update which puts a spanner in the works for every other club keen on the 22-year-old.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Torres explains: “As the press says, there are many offers, and we will abide by what Manchester United say.

“It looks like he will continue for another year. Every day that passes, there are more possibilities, but you have to be cautious.

“We have fifteen in the squad plus Greenwood, who we hope to give good news about soon and I hope will stay another year.”

This is an interesting prediction considering how keen the likes of Lazio and Juventus appear to be right now in signing him. Along with this, United need sales to fund recruitment this summer, so sending Greenwood on another loan wouldn’t help this.

But Getafe are definitely among the suitors and seem desperate to keep Greenwood for next season.

Greenwood may want to remain on loan at Getafe

Greenwood enjoyed a strong campaign at Getafe and refound himself within the footballing world, so it’s little surprise that he has such interest this summer.

He clearly enjoyed his time at Getafe and up until recently it seemed nailed on that he’d be remaining in Spain with Atletico Madrid thought to be very interested while La Liga president Javier Tebas has admitted he wants Greenwood to remain in the league.

Getafe’s desire to retain him could pay off too, as if United sell others first, it may lessen the need to sell Greenwood this summer and so a loan may be acceptable before selling for more money in a years time.

It seems like there are still plenty of twists and turns in the Greenwood departure story to come, but we imagine we’ll get a resolution soon given how hot the links are getting.
