Florida State has landed a commitment from Newbury Park (Calif.) High four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Smigiel becomes commit No. 4 for head coach Mike Norvell and his staff early in the 2026 cycle, adding to a class that ranks No. 1 nationally per the On3 Industry.
“Relationships made FSU right for me,” Smigiel said. Quarterbacks coach Tony Tokarz led the charge in recruiting him.
“The way these coaches take care of the players is like nothing I’ve seen before.
“Tallahassee is a special place. It’s a town that really cares about the University and everyone loves to win.”
Smigiel has been on campus a couple times.
“Being able to take my whole family out here and having everyone love it is all I needed to see. This place is special.”
Smigiel gives FSU one of the nation’s best
The On3 Industry tabs Smigiel as the nation’s No. 5 quarterback and No. 43 prospect overall. He chose Florida State over an offer list that included the likes of Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Miami, UCLA, Arizona, Utah and Oklahoma State.
“They were always up top,” Smigiel’s father and coach Joe told On3.
“It’s a great environment,” the elder Smigiel added. “Coach is a Christian, holds his teams’ accountable, family man, great staff and coaches. The offense is awesome and they put a big emphasis on school and developing them into men. Our family trusts this program with Brady’s development into being a leader and a man of faith.”
The younger Smigiel is ready to put on his recruiting cap.
“With the location of Tallahassee and the people at Florida State there is no better place than FSU,” he said. “I’m excited to build this class into the best in the country.”

Smigiel has already started two years on the prep level and is coming off a big sophomore season throwing for 4,222 yards and 52 touchdowns. He emerged as a national prospect as a freshman, lighting up defenses to the tune of 3,479 yards and 46 touchdowns.
“Brady is an absolute general,” private quarterbacks coach Danny Hernandez said. “He takes care of business. Being in position where he’s going to be a four-year starter in high school, the production he’s been able to do is impressive. Watching him his command and presence he has with his team is different than other guys I’ve seen in the 2026 class. He’s a second coach out there. It’s awesome.”
Hernandez also touched on Smigiel’s tangibles.
“He’s super accurate. I think one of the things he doesn’t get much credit for he moves better than people think. He knows how to create space. That’s a big deal for the bigger guy. You see smaller guys able to do it but he does it well for a big guy. He’s able to throw from different angles which I think is impressive and there isn’t a throw he can’t make. He’s going to be good with the drive ball, the layer ball and the touch ball. He’s going to be good with all of them.”

Smigiel loved his spring visit to Florida State as well.
“My highlights from the weekend are the interactions I was able to have with the players and coaches,” he said at the time. “Sitting in on the meetings and seeing the coaches communicate with the players the same way they talk to recruits. The quarterback room really impressed me with how close they all were. Felt like a brotherhood between those guys. Coach Norvell was also extremely impressive, you can tell he is going to do whatever it takes to get the most out of all of his players.”
