‘I felt at home’ … 4-star California QB Brady Smigiel commits to FSU

In a week when multiple Class of 2026 quarterbacks started to come off the board, FSU got its guy in four-star Brady Smigiel. And he’s among the best of the best.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the 6-foot-4.5, 215-pound quarterback is the fifth-best prospect at his position, as well as the 43rd-best player in the country overall.

Smigiel’s commitment comes following a last-second visit to Florida State this week, right after On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons placed RPM picks for the Seminoles to land the top signal-caller.

The top-five quarterback told Warchant on Saturday that a big reason for his commitment was just seeing how the staff works on a daily basis with the Seminoles’ players.

“The relationships I built and how the staff treat the players …,” Smigiel said. “The staff is like no other place in the country.”

This was the California standout’s second visit to Florida State this year, and afterward, he called his few days in Tallahassee, “perfect.”

Smigiel also got to hang out with FSU’s players this time around. Getting a chance to sit down with fellow Californian DJ Uiagalelei and the rest of the Seminoles’ quarterback room may have sealed the deal for the top signal-caller.

“I had dinner with all the QBs, they were all great,” Smigiel said. “Part of the reason I committed was because of the bond that QB room had with one another.”

The ‘Noles have been looking at the California quarterback for some time now. According to Smigiel, Norvell and quarterbacks coach Tony Tokarz have been in contact with him for two to three years.

“Coach Tokarz is great,” he said. “We have had a relationship for over three years now, and it keeps getting stronger.”

Smigiel also told Warchant there is no other head coach in the country that he would rather be coached by than Mike Norvell.

As for being so far away from home for college, the Newbury Park, Calif., standout said he is not worried about the distance because he, “felt at home when I was at FSU.”

Smigiel becomes the third On300 player to commit to FSU for this class, and the second in the top 100.
