Report: The two clubs who are progressing in talks to sign 'exceptional' Newcastle player

Newcastle United may need to sell players this summer.

Indeed, the idea of having to sell before Newcastle can buy again was first raised back in January given the balancing act complying with FFP regulations requires.

Obviously, the great hope is that neither Alexander Isak nor Bruno Guimaraes will depart.

Isak has stated how happy he is at St James’ Park, while Guimaraes has talked of his desire to continue to his journey on Tyneside.

The fact Guimaraes has a release clause in his contract obviously complicates matters but that will expire at the end of this month.

A host of other names have been linked away too but perhaps the most interesting has to be Yankuba Minteh.

Hailed as “exceptional” during his loan stint at Feyenoord, the winger has even been tipped to reach “world class” levels within the next two years.

Still, despite the fact Eddie Howe reportedly wants to see what he can do in training, the 19-year-old is thought to be attracting a huge amount of interest.

Now, two clubs reasonably far along in their pursuit have been named.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Italian giants Roma are one of the latest clubs keen on a move for the teenager.

However, he also adds that both Marseille and Everton are further along in their pursuit of the player amid discussions with Newcastle.

Not everyone at Newcastle is on board with selling Yankuba Minteh

Raising money without selling Isak or Guimaraes has its obvious benefits of course but it seems not everyone involved at Newcastle is fully on board with the idea of Minteh leaving, such is the high esteem in which he’s held.

Speaking to Geordie Boot Boys earlier this week, HITC football insider Graeme Bailey said: “I understand that there has been quite a lot of pushback within some areas of the backroom staff. They really want to give him a go after such an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord.”
