Falling short in overtime to Christopher Bell, Sheldon Creed has officially tied an unfortunate record in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Creed has now finished P2 in 10 Xfinity races in his career.

Sheldon Creed ties Dale Jarrett and Daniel Hemric for most runner-up finishes without a win in the series. Jarrett went on to have 11 career wins in the series and finished 4th twice in the points. Of course, he went on to become a Cup Series champion and Hall of Famer.

When Hemric won his first and only race in the series, he did it to capture the Xfinity Series championship. So, there is still hope yet for Creed in his quest.

After the race, Sheldon Creed spoke to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports about the race and finish. It wasn’t a great overall day, but the 18 was where it needed to be when it needed to be there in the end.

“Yeah, I thought I did all the right things to get next to the 00 and be clean about it. Obviously, the 20 was able to get inside both of us down the front stretch. I still thought I was in the best place to be there, I just think the 00 was able to pack air or give me a little nudge there right in the middle of one and two.

“I was already free on the short run so that it just got me just enough to let the 20 kind of clear both of us. So, not a stat I wanted to tie there. What is that? 10 second place finishes? So, that part is, I don’t want to call it frustrating, it’s still good finishes. Going to keep working hard. We’ve been in the mix the last four weeks in a row and run top-5 most of the day. So, that’s something to be proud of.”

Seven times this season, Sheldon Creed has finished in the top-5. That includes the last three Xfinity Series races in a row. He has three P2 finishes on the year in total.

The moment is coming for Creed. It really is. This is a Truck Series champion we are talking about. Eventually, that wall will come down and Creed will be back in Victory Lane. Today, it wasn’t meant to be in New Hampshire. Christopher Bell was better than Creed down the stretch. No shame losing to a Cup Series driver.
