Scarf pics imminent as Rangers show Koppen belief by handing target bumper contract - report

Hamza Igamane looks all set to be the next player in through the door at Rangers this summer.

In what is being mooted as the biggest transfer window at Ibrox since the Steven Gerrard revolution in 2018, changes are already in the offing.

Several experienced players have already left the club in the summer and with holes aplenty in Michael Beale’s makeshift squad, Rangers manager Philippe Clement has some big decisions to make.

With the Belgian working closely alongside compatriot Nils Koppen to build a squad capable of not only winning the title but adding value to the club, the pressure is building.

Brazilian left-back Jefte (Fluminense) is joined by fellow new recruits Clinton Nsiala (AC Milan) and Connor Barron (Aberdeen).

Oscar Cortes (RC Lens) has extended his stay in Glasgow whilst Mohamed Diomande (FC Nordsjælland) has made his January loan permanent.

Now, with Hamza Igamane of Moroccan side FAR Rabat closing in on a move, reports have suggested the Gers are really putting their faith in the talented striker.

Igamane closing in on Rangers move

News broke last week that Rangers were closing in on a £1.7m deal for 21-year-old Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane.

Whilst the striker’s name is largely unknown on Scottish shores, leading football data company CIES Football Observatory rates the FAR Rabat star as amongst the best young strikers in football.

Now, the Scottish Sun have claimed that the deal will in fact reach around £2.5m with Igamane set to sign on for five years at Rangers.

Local broadcaster beIN Sports has also backed up these claims by confirming that Igamane will sign a five-year deal in Glasgow.

With reports also suggesting that an announcement on the transfer is now imminent, leading Rangers insiders Heart & Hand have been discussing the move on X.

The podcast channel has been led to believe that Hamza Igamane will be announced as a Rangers player on Monday 24th June, subsequently the same day the first-team returns to training.

Rangers striker transfer hunt won’t end here

The closer the move for Hamza Igamane gets to completion the more excited Rangers fans are getting over the forward.

But a long-term contract on the table it suggests a couple of things from a Rangers point of view.

Firstly that the Ibrox side see Hamza Igamane as a project player who will need the time to settle and develop before reaching his peak at the club.

The club will be committed to working with Hamza on his first foray out of Morocco to help him to develop into the top player he has been tipped to become.

And secondly that talk of adding another, more senior striker appears to make sense.

Rangers have lost striker Kemar Roofe at the end of his contract with Wolves loanee Fabio Silva also leaving the club.

Cyriel Dessers – somewhat unfairly – bore the brunt of goalscoring reputation at Rangers last season whilst Brazilian striker Danilo missed the bulk of campaign with a serious knee injury.

Factor in the fact that Igamane could even be at the Olympics with his national side’s U23s this summer and suddenly the deal takes on another dimension.

There has been repeated suggestions that Rangers will be bringing in two new number 9s this season with the Ibrox side believed to be in discussions over another forward on top of Igamane.

Whilst a move for Lawrence Shankland has been downplayed in recent days, there is another striker for whom Rangers have been closely linked to a move.

But as things stand the asking price appears to be a major sticking point.
