'He was immense': The Celtic Invincible Micah Richards says he heard was 'better than Andy Robertson'

The chat about Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic this summer seems to have taken a huge blow after the Scotland defender was stretchered off injured in the 1-1 draw with Switzerland at Euro 2024.

The Arsenal fullback looked like he was on his way out of the North London club after they slapped a £10m price tag on his head and it was rumoured that he was interested in a return to Paradise.

However, after picking up what looks like a serious hamstring injury on Wednesday night, any hopes of a Tierney return to Glasgow could be placed on ice.

But that didn’t stop former England international defender, Michah Richards, from waxing lyrical about Tierney, especially from his old days at Celtic.

Richards heard Kieran Tierney was ‘better’ than Liverpool hero

The former Manchester City defender was speaking about Tierney’s injury and said he ‘felt sorry’ for the former Celtic man after sharing what he’d heard about him before he joined Arsenal.

Richards said [The Rest is Football], “You know what? I feel sorry for Tierney. Because when he was up in Scotland at Celtic, he was immense.

“Everyone was talking about he’s better than Andy Robertson. He comes down, he plays for Arsenal, does alright and gets injured and they obviously bring in another left back.

“He goes to Sociedad, not really worked out the way [he wanted]. Obviously playing as a three at the back for Scotland, he does it really well.

“And then just as he gets his form going, he has a really good game, and gets injured.”

Tierney enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Celtic which earned him his £25m move to Arsenal.

In 170 games at Celtic, the 27-year-old won five Scottish Premierships, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups which, of course, included the famous Invincibles Treble season.

Who knows what Tierney could have accomplished at Arsenal had injury not curtailed his time there?

And looking at the injury Tierney picked up against the Swiss, it could be some time before we see the former Celtic man in an Arsenal jersey again.
